Metallics are in

A monochrome colour palette, gold and brass detailing and vanity basins are all topping the list for on-trend looks for bathrooms in 2018. Designers are saying farewell to accent colours and bright displays, and are turning to simple shades of black, white and grey instead.

When it comes to fixtures, chrome is also taking a back seat with gold and brass detailing taking centre stage, as well as black metal shower frames.

Lisa Jepson, from Willbond Bathrooms, said: “The new year is the perfect time to give your bathroom a bit of a revamp and a fresh look. For 2018, we’re seeing a move to monochrome alongside dashes of bright metallics such as gold and brass. It’s also all about creating a sense of the outdoors in your bathroom by adding fresh foliage and indoor plants. These are an easy way to freshen up your space.”

Black and white is a permanent classy palette and tops the list for 2018. Monochrome is a traditional scheme for bathrooms but can be jazzed up with metallic detailing and bold patterns. It also exudes luxury and relaxation, and can be mixed in with shades of grey for an extra touch.

Chrome is taking a step back in 2018 with gold and brass being the new colours for your taps and bathroom fixtures. Sleek and minimal designs will ensure the look stays up-to-date. The metallic detailing also pairs perfectly with a subtle monochrome colour palette.

Rather than stick with minimal glass shower frames, showers are getting a darker highlight for the new year with black metallic framing. This simple effect adds a linear, architectural look to the bathroom and paired with monochrome tiling and marble surfaces, gives a very high-end finish. At the same time, if you prefer the industrial look, match with simple white metro tiles.

It’s no longer about the bath or the shower – the basin will be the focal point of the bathroom in 2018. Think marble bench tops and painted vanity units, with the colour blue predicted to be a popular choice for next year. These are then paired with either statement stone basins or classic white ceramic
basins. If you also want to add a modern feel, opt for a shallow basin.

House plants thrive in the bathroom due to the low lighting and high humidity – and an injection of greenery is the perfect way to breathe life into your space. For easy maintenance but high foliage, opt for plants such as orchids, spider plants, bamboo, ferns, ivy and aloe vera.
